About Carutheville, MO - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Caruthersville, Missouri is the county seat of Pemiscot County, in southeast Missouri along the Mississippi River. Caruthersville's first inhabitants were the Mound Builders, Native Americans who built huge earthworks throughout the Mississippi Valley. One such structure, some 270 feet high, can still be seen a few miles south of town. Caruthersville was established in 1857 and incorporated as a city in 1874. The Caruthersville Bridge, completed in 1976, is the only bridge crossing the Mississippi between Memphis, Tennessee and Cairo, Illinois.
Caruthersville has what is known as a humid subtropical climate, characterized by humid summers and mild winters. Springtime can sometimes bring some dramatic weather, though, as was the case in 2006 when a string of tornadoes struck the town in early April and displaced some 1,500 residents, although no-one in Caruthersville was killed.
Caruthersville is home to the Lady Luck Casino, which features live entertainment and several restaurants as well as gambling. Caruthersville's annual events include the Woofstock summer music festival, held to benefit the Caruthersville Humane Society in June, the Backyard BBQ Festival sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce in August, and the Fall Festival Chili Cook-Off, an event sanctioned by the Chili Appreciation Society International, in October.
